Not a coach, it's a sleeper. Can you read the car number?

That's Autoliner 100, a converted Imperial -series sleeper, running platform forward.
Still active and known as Yerba Buena nowdays. Never owned by Amtrak.

Thank You. Wasn,t there an edict out by Amtrack in the 1970s about private cars having to be in Amt colors to be attached to trains? Again thanks.

The sleeper giveaway are the small upper bunk windows. Are those still on the Yerba Buena?

Amtrak had an embargo of all private cars for a year in 1972 blamed on inusrance reasons. When private cars were allowed again they had to be painted in Platinum mist and Phase 1 Pointless arrow. Business cars of the railroads also received the paint to run on Amtrak trains. After 1976 Amtrak began to see the revenue potential of private cars and lifted the paint requirements. Yerba Buena in the picture is most likely in the 1973-early 1977 era.

This is true that for a short while all private cars were being painted in Amtrak colors as per the photo attached of a car owned by RailRoad Passenger Cars, Inc. (RRP) taken in Baltimore, MD.

Yes, the Yerba Buena still has the windows. Here's a shot of it last summer near Leavenworth on #8. It's a sharp car, very nice.

The small upper window placement identifies the car as a Pullman/Standard 4-4-2 (4 double bedrooms, 4 compartments, 2 drawing rooms). P/S stopped putting in the small upper windows (compartment or section upper berth) later in production per RR request - the dang thinks LEAKED and were a pain to deal with. On a 6-6-4 (6 sections, 6 roomettes, 4 double bedrooms) they're at one end of the car.
