AP: Tickets Sell Out for Train from Downtown Denver....
Author: jofegan

DENVER — All 400 tickets were sold within 12 hours for a one-day, roundtrip ski-train excursion from downtown Denver to Winter Park, according to spokesmen for the resort and Amtrak.

The response helps build the case for resuming a regular alternative to increasingly congested roads, they said Thursday.

-------
Article mentions ski train was cancelled due to costs/insurance. Is that true?

(I see the original offering of tickets has been discussed below...)

A friend on Facebook posted the following:
"I'm on standby. They're talking about adding more cars too."
Sounds like the train length and number of passengers could be increased.

Present consist is three superliner coach, three superliner bag coach. Skis go into bag coach.

No food or beverage service.

Can someone advise if the Rio Grande trains had any beverage/snack service.

They certainly did. After-ski drinks and snacks were very big on that train. The consist included three Club Car class cars and two Cafe Lounge cars. Google Rio Grande Ski Train and lots of material will come up.

The Denver extra board will probably run the train. They would have run the train that Ed Ellis was planning.
