NJ.com:
>>NJ Transit train commuters pay the highest fares of the nation's 10 biggest commuter railroads, including those run by New York's MTA, which
just hiked fares on Monday, according to a commuter group and an NJ
Advance Media analysis. The study by the New Jersey Association of Railroad Passengers contends NJ Transit has the highest fares in four of six categories.
That is primarily based on a comparison of monthly fares, which is the
type of ticket most commonly used by commuters.More at:

Didn't NJT somewhat recently jack up their prices considerably?  Like 40% in
some instances?  Or was it 20%?  It was quite drastic and if I heard it correctly,
it seemed the type of event which could never be deemed acceptable.

The article said first fare in five years, which sounds about right.  That was a big increase.

That was just after Chris Christie's first election, when the NJ Transit fares were jacked up, Turnpike fees went up, and he OK'd the bridge and tunnel increases. Just before he went on his "hold the line on fares" and "can't raise taxes" position

I go to Atlantic City about every other month by rail.
I consider NJT's fares an absolute bargain. With my senior
citizen discount, the fare from Baltimore to Philadelphia
on the "early bird" train leaving at 4 AM is $40.00 and at
8 AM it is approximately $58.00. The senior citizen fare
from Philadelphia to Atlantic City is $4.50 at all times!

If you applied NJT's fare rate to the entire route. My cost
for this one way trip would be less than $20.00!
