Along with the article in the LA Times there were the usual complaints about trains running at grade level, followed by the voices of reason explaining why they don't all run underground or elevated, along with the call for stricter driver licensing.

The driver of the car is a 31 year old film student who is in grave condition and may not make it.
So he's already been punished for his stupidity...

The laws of physics are enforced much more strictly than the State Vehicle and Penal Codes.

According to last night's local TV news, the train operator has been released from the hospital.

When I first read the thread I too thought Metrolink. Not until I looked at the map did I realize it was light rail, not commuter heavy rail.

I think it's easy for reporters who are not that knowledgeable about the local railway operations to get "Metrolink" (the diesel powered suburban rail service) and "Metro Rail" (the electric transit system run by the same entity that runs the majority of buses in LA County) confused.  It's like the folks who think that General Motors-backed National City Lines was responsible for the disappearance of the Pacific Electric Red Cars, when NCL subsidiary LA Transit Lines bought out  the LA Railway narrow gauge "Yellow Car" system from the Huntington estate.

Well the title says light rail...
