new timetables?
Author: RevRandy

I have received a series of notices from Amtrak about schedule changes in my reservations on Silver Service trains (91/92, 97/98) from and to south Florida over the next few months. . . all of the changes taking effect on Monday, April 6.

Yet, no new timetables are available on the AMTRAK site a week out from the changes.

Are new schedules applying only to this specific service or is there a new National Timetable to be issued for more extensive April 6 changes?

I got a notice last week for a change on a trip on the Cardinal in July.  Guess there are lots of changes.

Downeaster schedules are changing, too.

Didn't new schedules go into effect on January14th? I've been asking the Harrisburg ticket agent for a new national timetable since then! She told me last week that they would have them on April 6th!

I will be traveling on the Coast Starlight southbound on April 8 and I have not received any notice from Amtrak so, I assume, at least for that train there are no changes planned.

is the change the additional of the summertime stop at OOB (Old Orchard Beach)

I do not think that they will have the connection with the Maine Eastern to Rockland thos year. Did not work out well for the Maine Eastern last year. No time for the passengers to visit Rockland.

I'm traveling both ways between Cincinnati and DC.  They added about 10 minutes to the time between those two.  I think the departure time was the same at bot ends.  I know there were having some trouble on the Buckingham Branch previously but I haven't heard anything about it lately.  I haven't looked at the times beyond those two points.  Actually, if the new timetables haven't been published, I wouldn't be able to compare them.  Regardless, the change is only a few minutes, nothing major.  Nothing worse that a slightly late run, however, watching Winnemucca postings on LD arrivals at Chicago, the Cardinal has been running better than anything else that goes there.

New National Timetables go in effect April 6th.
A few are floating around in Amtrak offices.
On line version is to be posted "a few days" before April 6th.
Schedule changes are already loaded in reservation availability.

In this electronic age, perhaps Amtrak could save money by no longer printing timetables.

I think charging a few bucks for one is a better way to go.  Preserves a convenient feature while managing costs....

I don't think so, not anymore.  Southwest doesn't even have a pdf of the whole timetable on their website.
