> earning a spot in Forbes magazine’s first-ever America’s Best > Employers 2015. -Amtrak Media Relations That might sound good...until you see that Amtrak ranked #401 and the list includes 500 employers. Still, at least Amtrak placed on the list, even if in the bottom 20%. If there are going to be 500 "winners", that sounds like one of those contests where almost everybody wins. Forbes doesn't say what the criteria were for inclusion, nor how many beyond 500 qualified for consideration. Among Class One USA railroads, Amtrak landed in the bottom half. Among others in the transportation sector, four Class Ones scored higher than Amtrak, and four big-city transportation agencies. And Greyhound. And commuter rail operator Veolia. 18. Dumb, petty move on Christie's part. Date: 03/31/15 16:59 Re: Amtrak: "WE'RE NUMBER 401!" Author: knotch8 True on both counts. Christie tried to take the agreement employees' pass privileges, too, but the unions argued that they're built into the contracts.
Watch out come contract-renewal time. Date: 03/31/15 17:07 Re: Amtrak: "WE'RE NUMBER 401!" Author: CPR_4000 Wasn't that in retaliation for the Sandy screwup? Meanwhile, the real perps walked. That's Joisey for ya.

Date: 03/31/15 18:32 Re: Amtrak: "WE'RE NUMBER 401!" Author: MEKoch Wow. Just ask the employees of these railroads. They will have nothing good to say. CSX operating employees all around me comment that the company will attempt to save ten cents, but waste two dollars doing it.... They consider it a hostile place to work, where the mgmt. are constantly trying to catch an employee in the smallest lapse, so that punishment can be administered. A three mph speed violation got an employee 14 days.......his first offense.

And it's not just the Class 1 railroads, either. One used to be able to get away from all of that BS by going to work for a short line, but now that so many former Class 1 management people are getting jobs at various short lines, it sucks there too. A little digging got to the methodology that led to the Forbes rankings...the results were the results of surveying EMPLOYEES at companies with at least 2,500 workers. It would appear that they DID ask the employees of these railroads. Date: 04/01/15 06:58 Re: Amtrak: "WE'RE NUMBER 401!" Author: CPR_4000 GenePoon Wrote:

I wonder if they included T&E in the surveys or just asked the white collar folks. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/01/15 06:59 by CPR_4000. Date: 04/01/15 07:01 Re: Amtrak: "WE'RE NUMBER 401!" Author: timecruncher I know Amtrak T&E people who might find fault with the listing due to how the carrier repeatedly denies pay to employees who are asked to work trains with short crews, double back (until they doglaw) on their runs, are due pay in excess of regular time due to freight train delays, lack of hotel rooms at away terminals, the list goes on and on.
Greyhound. First Transit is one of the least labor-friendly organizations on planet earth. Can't say for the others. NJT won't allow its own employees to ride free on their ID cards? Really? timecruncher Date: 04/01/15 07:35 Re: Amtrak: "WE'RE NUMBER 401!" Author: tmurray GenePoon Wrote:

Sure. 2,500 Senior Director and up employees. I'd wager at least 500 of those are VP and up. Fill in the blank for any large corporation; csx, dizknee, ge, you name it . Been there, been screwed by that. Spend $250 to save $0.10, cut raises, and give employees dire speeches, but give the senior staff six figure bonuses.... corporate america.
