Passenger Trains > Amtrak display at CSRMDate: 05/01/15 11:03 Amtrak display at CSRM Author: Auburnrail Well, seems like no one has posted any pictures of Amtrak's newest on brief display at the California State RR Museum, so here's a few.
These were taken when the unit was readied for pickup on a team track beneath I-5 just north of Sacramento Union Statiion. Lighting was not the best, but some interesting close-ups. Sorry for the side vew..could not get these to orient correctly while attaching.. Maybe someone can help out Date: 05/01/15 12:57 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: Technology-Jeske Brand new squeeky clean engine.... and an old rusted coupler...

Have you ever wondered why new cars have rusted wheels too? The railroads just can't afford to paint wheels and couplers I suppose. facepalm. Posted from Android DG . Have fun, I've got to go paint some wheels and couplers at work. Posted from Android DG . Unknown, US Date: 05/01/15 14:32 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: TexasRocket Technology-Jeske Wrote:

Look up oxidation and reaction rates in your chemistry book(if you have one), and the answer you seek is there. But thanks for playing though. You stole my line... you cant do that. But thanks for playing though. Date: 05/01/15 14:35 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: a6m20 Have viewed several of these electric passing through Auburn CA on their way back East. The one noticeable detail of these locos (despite being brand new) is the fact that all of the wheels just gleamed. Did not notice any rust on any of the 4 or 5 that I have seen.
Date: 05/01/15 14:53 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: tonymarchiando Since no one seriously responded to your comment, couplers and wheels are not to be painted, as the paint could hide cracks. So, those will always have at least a light coat of rust, even if brand new.
Date: 05/01/15 15:55 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: GP25 Sorry to take so long. But I had to download my pictures from my camera after I return from Sac.
But I was inside the Museum. And got pictures of SP 4294. Which was only 100 feet from Amtrak 643. and Amtrak Cal Car 8204. Jerry Martin Los Angeles, CA Central Coast Railroad Festival Date: 05/01/15 15:57 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: wa4umr tonymarchiando Wrote:

Body parts, on the other hand need to be protected if they are going to last 40 or 50 years/. John Date: 05/01/15 15:59 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: GP25 here are a few more of Amtrak 643.
And make note. they was allowing a tour of the Cab. But I wasnt able to get any pictures inside the Unit. because there wasnt any lights. But the Unit sure did have a great new car smell to her Jerry Martin Los Angeles, CA Central Coast Railroad Festival Date: 05/01/15 18:19 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: Lairport Similarly In the aircraft production industry, lifting tools are not allowed to be painted to allow crack detection,
however steel tools may be sprayed with clear acrylic to reduce rust accumulations from contaminating the aircraft. Date: 05/01/15 19:02 Re: Amtrak display at CSRM Author: Labiche The ACS64 wheels are not painted per industry requirement. What was "gleaming" on the wheels were the brake discs which are highly-machined and bolted to the wheels, making them visible from the side below the truck frames.
