If You Haven't Seen Enough Semaphores Yet...

If any of the crews are on this board, thanks for all the shows and waves. Hopefully you'll see us again before the blades fall.

3 - East Watrous

7 - A quick drive out of Shoemaker Canyon yields enough time to get into the East end of Ojita.
8 & 9 - With permission from the Watrous Valley Ranch, the coveted Mora River shot at 748 with less than satisfactory results.

10 & 11 - Backlighting is just about impossible to avoid at this spot, but here they are anyway. I wish I had gone to the other side of the tracks for these.
12 - The Crown Jewel of the trip. Some heavier clouds and a more elevated vantage point seal the deal.

Will the blades still be there in August?

Even I, as just a long distance observer, can say that they will be.

Most likely they'll still be there in August. Any without new signals in place? Questionable. When I rode the Chief last October ALL semaphores still operating had no new signals in place. By February the entire Watrous section had new signals up, but turned (still the way it is now). So who knows. And it all depends on if the Chief even keeps running. I know Amtrak has "committed" to the route, but other than that statement nothing has been done - no money set aside for repairs that I know of except in Kansas, and a lot of that was work BNSF was already doing. If something does get worked out, the semaphores could come down sooner than later...
