link not working for me ... 401 unauthorized ... a local news channel here in Philly had a short segue on the NTSB slated for 11pm tonight for an exclusive with NTSB showing Mr Sumwalt stating new details in the investigation ... i guess this is what it was about ...

Worked for me.  Maybe a landslide of traffic from TO members?

"...no anomalies or malfunctions" means the signals were working.  But they could not do what
Amtrak did not program them to do, even though they could have: enforce the speed.

Notwithstanding Gene's obsessions, it is always good to know that the signals were working as opposed to learning that they were not. LOL!

Current signals NY-WAS (except for two short stretches of ACSES) can enforce only three speeds: 45, 30, and 20.  Speeds above 45 to max are the responsibility of the engineer. Would you have them enforce 45 on a curve suited for 90?  ACSES, when it is fullly implemented the end of this year will do exactly that.
