Good.  That much less train congestion because of that impediment of a train station.

Either go back to the frequent buses between Newark Penn Station and Newark Airport, or extend PATH down to the airport, as should have been done in the first place.  Having commuter and intercity trains stop 2.5 miles south of Newark Penn Station and tie up mainline-railroad real estate has been crazy since the day the idea was floated.

Having the frequent buses or PATH service means that connections to and from Newark Airport could be made via Newark Penn Station with every single Amtrak and NJT train, including Acela Express, and not just the trains that stop today at the Airport.

The Port Authority has resisted the idea of an airtrain, PATH to the airport, a Pennsy stop, or even a CNJ stop, for decades. It would interfere with the incredibly lucrative parking operations.

Even back in the late 1960s, when the idea of new terminals was first floated, the PA opposed the rail links. The "PATH to Plainfield" proposal had PATH going through the passenger terminals, and on to Elizabeth, Cranford and Westfield.  PA fought that one, as well.

Is there really congestion due to the few trains that
stop at the airport?  Sure, some - but after the schedules
have been laid out - is it really a big deal?

Direct service by train to the airport - it does not seem all
that crazy to me.  Well - maybe in the US.

NJ Transit built an overpass / flyover for track 1 (compass northbound local) just south of the airport station to allow freights to exit track 2 and access LANE (and BUD, Waverly-5?) to go into Oak Island.

But knotch8 is correct that there is a small delay for westbound trains to  cross over to their local tracks after the station stop.  If everyone is on time, that's not an issue.  If some trains are a little late, then it can be a delay as the signals clear.

I guess I don't understand how this is a problem, especially the westbounds crossing over???  Why do westbounds have to cross over?

The station can accomodate three trains simultaneously, from what I can tell on Google and there are by-pass tracks for trains not stopping there.

I do agree, though, that sending PATH out there would be a big help.

PATH's proposed project to spend $1.5B to the Haynes Ave "Airport" rail station would be a huge waste, unless it also replaces the amusement park ride through the terminals, or at least to one of them.
