Freight derailment shuts down TRE, West Irving-Ft. Worth

A two-car freight derailment near Valley View Road on the Trinity Railway Express line shut down
TRE this morning west of Irving, TX.  Passengers riding between Irving and Ft. Worth were
handled by bus.

The derailment occurred at a switch to a spur into Centreport.

From DART: “TRE customers will ride buses between T&P and West Irving stations due to a freight
train derailment near CentrePort station. TRE is operating between West Irving and Union stations.
Expect delays. Our apologies. Service expected to return to normal this afternoon.”

"Shuttle buses are operating normally between Centreport station, (American Airlines) HDQ
and DFW."

Actually the derailed cars have already been moved clear of the fouling point and TRE has
reportedly resumed operation.

Edit: FOLLOWUP from DART: “Earlier freight train derailment near CentrePort Station has been cleared.
Trains beginning to service all stations. Will take some time to recover schedules. Thank you for your patience.”

The roads were a mess in the DFW area this morning, many underpasses flooded out and traffic backed up for miles.  Lots of rain and no place for the water to run off.

Not rail-related but weather-related in the area: a drainage issue caused a 625 sq. foot sinkhole to open up
adjacent to a runway at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport.  The runway had to be closed until the condition could
be stabilized.  Operations are now back to normal, but definitive repairs to the drainage
system will take weeks.
