Passenger Trains > Empire Builder Station ID Help NeededDate: 07/04/15 09:05 Empire Builder Station ID Help Needed Author: aehouse After returning from a recent trip to Montana on the Builder, I found I could not identify the location of the accompanying two pictures. I took them at a station west of Milwaukee and east of Minot (as they appear in the photo stream sequence) that has checked baggage service, but I can't recall where.
The train is westbound No. 7. Anyone? Art House Date: 07/04/15 09:16 Re: Empire Builder Station ID Help Needed Author: commissioner Winona, MN, Smoking stop and crew change for engineers betweer St cloud, MN and Chicago.

I believe it is the old C&NW station, and you cross over their old right of way to get to it from the MILW track that your are on.

It is the old Milwaukee depot at Winona, Minnesota, just a block east of the campus of Winona State University. Yes, there was a house track with steam and 32V electricity for Pullman setouts, used infrequently after the Hiawatha started keeping the main to allow for faster station stops. The building you see behind the CP trucks is a passenger shelter that was built to protect the boarding passengers from the wind and extreme cold of winter, and the rain of summer. Winona is a very scenic city with a great history, and currently one of the cutting edge cities in our country in the area of composite plastics. WSU has a composite engineering program that is among the best in the nation. |
