Passenger Trains > Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15Date: 07/05/15 12:16 Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: twinvalleyfiddler Caught this as I was riding the NJT 3951 to Hamilton NJ, on the afternoon of 7/2/15. My train (a set of NJT Arrow MU's), which was running express to Princeton Jct. Next to me was a probably a NJT Arrow MU Jersey New Brunswick express. At the ending is my train pulling into my stop at Hamilton. Shot it with my Ipad. I had some fun composing a soundtrack for it as well (I'm a pro musician and music teacher). Enjoy!

John Date: 07/05/15 19:42 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: Tominde Definitely VOTD material. Great job with iPad, and a nice presence of mind to pick it up and shoot the video.

Date: 07/06/15 00:05 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: MartyBernard You did good! Real good! Maybe next fall you can teach video editing.
Marty Bernard Date: 07/06/15 04:54 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: RGDave Really well done, capturing well one of the fairly-common experiences on the Northeast Corridor during rush hour that most people don't even notice. For all the negative press about Amtrak and other passenger railroads, the NEC each day is a fantasticly complex and fascinating operation.
Well done, congrats on VOTD! ~RGDave Date: 07/06/15 08:24 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: RFandPFan Very enojyable and from a unique perspective. Well done!

Date: 07/06/15 13:27 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: atsf121 Well done Charles, nice music to go with an interesting video. I've only ridden the NEC once. Was your train and the other one on the middle two tracks while locals were then on the outer tracks?
Thanks, Nathan Date: 07/06/15 13:50 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: twinvalleyfiddler Thanks. I'm guessing we were on two of the inner express tracks. In the video it looks like there is another track over to the west side.

Date: 07/06/15 16:16 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: MW4man Looks like the "race" took place between Elmora and Union (Elizabeth to Metro Park) in the 6 track section. The MU you were filming was on track 4 and your train was on track 3. The track in the background is B track and the platform was Linden.

Thanks for the video, and the great music. It came together very well. As MW4MAN mentions up thread, the video starts at Linden NJ, and we also get glimpses of Rahway station, the area around the one time Colonia station. Rahway has been extensively rebuilt, but retains its Pennsy era duckunder from B track into the tunnel. At Rahway, 4 and B both have westbound platform access, while only A track has platform access. Tracks 1, 2, and 3 don't currently have access to platforms in that area (Rahway and Linden). Date: 07/07/15 07:03 Re: Train Racing - on the NEC 7/2/15 Author: switchlock Again, very neat, Charles. Your music made me think of Tangerine Dream.
