They just went by the house. I didn't catch the number- the track is only 300' away, but I live in a forest! Hard to get numbers.

Dutch Flat

BTW: the lead power is back-2-back, not elephant style. For some reason Chicago's been sending them out that way more often these days.

654 is being towed at the front of our train. (Posted from the back of 6 (15) currently at Reno).

I wonder if a directive went out after the problem in New Mexico last week (had to wye the engines to run around and reverse the train)?

No 5 & 6 have tended over the years to have their power back to back while the rest of the Western LD trains have their power arranged nose to tail.

Yes, 5&6 has always tended to run them back to back but last winter suddenly stopped. Now the pattern seems to be reverting back.

About the time 5&6 suddenly stopped, 11&14 suddenly STARTED running back to back- until they got their windshield "rocked" a few weeks ago and lost quite a bit of time turning the trailing loco in Montalvo (near Ventura). I don't think I've seen a back to back set on the Coast since.

This implies there COULD actually be a policy in play- but the patterns deify figuring out what that might be!
