LA Metro Rebranding and 2024 Map
Author: cabanillas

As has been noted here in the past, Los Angeles Metro is planning on rebranding all the lines as some of the projects in work get completed.  Gold, Blue, Red, Green and Purple lines will go away as will the street named ones (Expo, the in work Crenshaw).  Also, the interconnection between the blue, gold, and expo lines under downtown LA that is in work now will result in different connections - Blue line connects to Gold Line to Azuza, Expo to Gold Line East LA.  On the Curbed LA blog, there was a link posted to a consolidated map that was developed by a local transportation planner named Steve Boland that shows the end to end strip maps of the new lines with the proposed designations.  A slightly shrunken version is attached, the big version is at the website  http://calurbanist.com/los-angeles-future-rail/

Line designator changes include Blue Line to A Line, Red and Purple lines to B and C lines, Green Line to D with airport extension called L, Expo to E, and Crenshaw to K.

This is still in work so the final product may be something like this or it may not.  But it gives an idea of where they are planning to go.

I take it this "planner" worked for Muni up in San Francisco?  A Line, B Line, etc...

Ah, but check the link on the page that goes to the Metro proposal for redesignation.  Not real hard to find.

Metro staff goes into all of the proposal in detail.  That is where the proposed data came form, including the bus lines that are not on this map.

How exactly are the connections between the Blue line and the Gold line to Pasadena going to work?

And exactly how is the connection betweeen the Gold line to E LA and the Expo line going to work?

Via the Regional Connector Transit Corridor. Here's the official website: http://www.metro.net/projects/connector/

Scroll down and on the right side of the page you'll find a "maps" link with a graphic showing the planned alignment.

Interesting, thanks. So trains running between Santa Monica and E LA will not stop at Union Station. That seems odd.

Wonder if they're gonna extend the Subway at Whilsher/Western all the way to UCLA!

Eventually.  There is an extension going on right now that was not reflected onthe map as the author used 2024 as the date and the first leg won't be open till 2026.  Eventually it will go out to Westwood near the public school.

So Duke Ellington fans in LA will finally be able to "Take the A Train".  The Arcadia High School pep band played that classic from the Swing Era last Saturday at the Gold Line station dedication in Arcadia.

Also, if they could only build a north south line following the 405 area from the Valley.
