Some folks who ask such questions are just interested fans...or foamers if you prefer. Need isn't exactly the right word, but if one wants it enough, I guess it could be called need. Some may be working on a railroad-related project and find that the information that can be obtained here is faster and maybe even better than the information that can be had from the industry.
