CP RDC's at night
Author: Mberry

Exporail in St-Constant, Qc has preserved two CP RDC's and I was able to shoot them both of them this past Saturday night as part of the 'Illuminated Trains' night shoot. The first and second shot show RDC-1 CP 9069. The third shot shows RDC-4 CP 9250.

RDC's made/make - and still do if more were operated - a lot of sense. VIA's massacre of them in the 1990 cutbacks were completely short-sighted, as was Amtrak's use of them on two hour +\~ trips. Engineer and conductor is all that is needed for staff. And such self-propelled cars don't need P42's or other engines that overpower the consist. The P42's, for example, with cab cars operating as New Haven shuttles or Hiawatha shuttles could benefit from RDC's. Granted it, the Hiawatha train sets have had their consist grow over the years. But there are other potential routes out there - Amtrak and VIA, both former and current routes.
