And to be extra safe, don't ever run them.

The missing souls may still be in the canal. In a grim way it could not have happened on a better day with the media focused on the IS attacks in Paris. Date: 11/14/15 22:14 Re: 5 dead in TGV derailment- Strasbourg, France Author: darkcloud abyler Wrote:

You really think the driver on the 1st test train on a new section of track, that won't officially go in service until April 2016, with dozens of technicians aboard to monitor the trip and test the track, was by himself in the cab and simply fell asleep or was playing with his phone? The train is waaay off the track on the high side of a curve. There aren't too many reasons to cause that. One is excess speed on a curve. Another is that there were buttercups on the top of the curve and the engine was named Tootle. Your pick. You made a statement that they didn't learn from 3 specific incidents. What exactly are you implying that they did not learn? Because the examples you cited were all cases of distracted operator failure: one distracted by his phone, the second fell asleep, the third hasn't been officially declared because of convenient (perhaps lawyer induced) amnesia, but most of us who have worked in the cab have an idea of what may have happened (may have lost sufficient awareness of his location/actions required after the distraction of the rock throwing at his train and other trains). So it certainly comes across that you were implying something. Need for more safeguards like PTC? They already have a better version, though it is possible it wasn't engaged due to being a test run. But being a test run (some claim the first one on that segment) with all the technicians aboard suggests it wasn't the usual routine situation where an operator might have been tempted to play with his phone or nod off. When my road has maintenance or other types of specials we usually either have a supervisor in the cab or are in frequent radio contact with a supervisor either on board or working closely with us. --- Reports now that more than the official 49 staff and technicians were aboard, including unauthorized children and family members, death toll now eleven, 37 injured: http://news.yahoo.com/fatal-french-high-speed-test-train-had-children-112513900.html http://www.railjournal.com/index.php/europe/ten-dead-as-test-train-derails-on-tgv-est-phase-2.html Edited 1 time(s). out to all of their families and friends and co-workers. What an awful thing! We know WHAT happenedm, but we have no idea at all about WHJY it happened. We may never know, if the engineer is among the deceased. |
