What legit need would Metro have for those old solid-bearing and ribbed wheel trucks?  I believe ribbed wheels have been outlawed for at least 75 years or so, and solid bearings can't be interchanged to other railroads any more either.

Often times these trucks are used for 'dolly trucks' under cars while moving around inside the shops.
And with the current rash of equipment-damaging mishaps on METRO you want to have lots of dollies, in case you need them.

These are spares, they are never used outside the shops ----- well, OK, they might be moved to a wreck site if needed ( to limp the carbodies back to the shop...)
