Sunday morning Hoosier State
Author: Contax645

Amtrak's #851 train, the Hoosier State scoots north through St. John, Indiana via the former Monon on a quiet Sunday morning. November 29, 2015.
It's great to see or ride this train when I can.

Really nice photo. Can't quite tell if there are three or four cars in the consist?

Looks like 3 cars and 2 engines running elephant style.

Nice shot of one of my favorite trains!  Love the tele compression that clearly shows the undulating track profile--it's not all flatland in the Hoosier State--esp in Sou IN where my roots are.  Thanks for sharing!

If only two coaches why? I thought IP had 3 qualified and this was the busiest travel day of the year

It's great for railfan photographers, who should get their shots while it's still running.  Otherwise, of course, it's not significant transportation or public asset.  It probably has about one year to go.

Sunday is not the busiest travel day of the year; that would typically be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.   This year it seems that the busiest travel day of the year was in August, eclipsing Thanksgiving Eve.

All 3 coaches are there, 2 right behind the units, and one behind the dome.  The smooth side ACF former UP coach DYERSBURG is right behind and hides in the profile of the GP40FH's.

Thanks for the clarification.

And I'll revise my comment to ONE of the busiest travel days of the year.

It's a good sign the 3rd backup engine of NJT livery is not among the 2 here.

I just shot this train for the first time last Friday up in Dyer.  Really nice looking train, and the accomodations looked pretty good as well from what I could see.

It looks like jointed track that was welded?
