Passenger Trains > Amtrak #6 at Omaha 1/5/2015

I had to take my parents to catch the CZ for Chicago this morning in Omaha.  It was the first time I had been to the station since TV station KETV moved in to the renovated Burlington Station next door.  The effect of having a lit, occupied building next door and adjacent to the passenger platform has greatly helped the overall atmosphere for passengers arriving and departing.  Here's a few cellphone shots of the area.

1). Looking back from the head end along the train you can see the Burlington the Station to the left on the distance.  #6 was running about 1hr 20min late this morning, not leaving Omaha until about 6:40am.

2). A little closer view of the Burlington Station beside the passenger platform.

3). Here's a view of passengers boarding adjacent to the Burlington Station.  Although it is fenced off for security, the additional lighting and paving of the old Depot track area as a roadway for Amtrak's baggage forklift have made a huge difference from the dark, spooky area this used to be.

I agree, a great improvement in the feel of the area.  I remember how gloomy it was even back in 1976 when I was last there.

Wow - the Burlington Station looks great from track level!!  Taking down the remnant of the train concourse (which once connected all the way to Union Station to the north) has also brightened things up a tremendous amount.  Attached is what it looked like back in May 2007 - the remnant of the concourse extended over the current station track to the right.  At that time there was a plan to convert the station into condominiums.

The transformation of Burlington station is miraculous. 
The city of Omaha owes KETV a large favor as in property tax forgiveness. 
KETV escape to the suburb would have cost less.   
 

Glad to see the improvements they did pay off, nice job and great pics!

The interior of the station was also done with class.  I think you can go to KETV web site and see interior shots.
