Passenger Trains > Unusual SP power consist at LAUPTDate: 02/04/16 10:46 Unusual SP power consist at LAUPT Author: ValvePilot The SP cannot be accused of uniformity when it came to diesel consists. That's one thing that made the road interesting.
Years ago there was a tail track that paralleled the 6 throat tracks that entered laupt. This track was used for mail car switching at the postal annex and to service the "garden tracks" (private cars). There was a parking area in front of this track which served as a view point for railfans. Behind the small parking area was "Calif Drop Forge" which seemed to operate 24/7. There was constant noise from the forge. The endless parade of power and trains made this one of the best spots in So Calif . SP, ATSF & UP were all busy in the early evening hours both with incoming and departing trains. One evening I saw what I considered to be a most unusual consist for a passenger train that I ever saw. The outbound Sunset (with the combined Golden State ?) had 6 F7 "A" units all elephant style! Not a single B unit to be found! Please post if you ever saw anything comparable.
