Green And Glint Together Again

Nothing goes better with green hillsides than a little bit of glint.

Train 11 yesterday.

Strange Trip -- That's a stunning image of the Coast Starlight. Thank you for sharing it.

Also shows how short the winter consist is. If I am seeing this correctly, baggage, transition sleeper, 2 more sleepers, diner, business class, lounge and 2 coaches.

That is indeed the correct consist.   The CZ is also running most days this winter with two coaches instead of the usual 3.

Excellent picture, I still need to ride the Coast Line one of these years.

Yeah but the CA Zephyr needs cars in the middle section where there's a market for those who don't want to travel on Interstate 70 nor make the trip by car to/from Denver and Salt Lake. There's also a ski demand on weekend.

Empire Builder is hitting the same thing with West Coast and Whitefish, MT to and from.

The Zephyr doesn't work for skiers. Unlike the Ski Train, it doesn't stop at the Winter Park ski area. It stops in Fraser, 6 miles down the line. Then you wait for a shuttle (every 1/2 hour, 20-minute ride). With a 10:07 train arrival -- if on time, another whole kettle of fish -- the earliest you'd be skiing is 11:00. To catch the 3:50 return, you'd have to be on the 3:00 shuttle bus, leaving under 4 hours to ski. Not a lot for an all-day trip from Denver.
