Then told no promotion unless I give in to gay sex. Oh well, the pass privileges were very good; rode many trains long since gone the way of the iron horse.

Been there, done that also (well not all of that). If you need a job it provides union wages and benefits. Learn all you can while there and use that knowledge to move onto something better. Hard work and crazy long hours, but... I've never had less than a 4 day weekend in my career Never worked much over 12 days a month or 120 days a year. As a result, I can live up here in Dutch Flat in a house I designed and built myself. (had the time to do it) The one on one time I've had rasing my daughter has been priceless! And I can tell stories 'till the cows come home... No regrets SR Bush Amtrak LSA My spot opens up in 5mo 19days Date: 02/07/16 09:30 Re: Would you like to work for Amtrak? Jim Date: 02/07/16 11:28 Re: Would you like to work for Amtrak? Author: The_Chief_Way Kind of depends on what you do, where you are, and who you work for ( and with ). Same could be said for a lot of
outfits. Date: 02/07/16 13:11 Re: Would you like to work for Amtrak? Author: fjc That's their standard procedure now to make you sign an agreement, yet they strung me a long and let me interview for RFE and DS jobs, than in the end said I was one huge liability.
Regarding interviewing for Amtrak, when I interviewed for engine service the first time in early 2002, I had been working a variety of jobs from the road, to yard to work trains handling freight equipment in differeing types of authority, etc. Imagine how flabergasted I was when they started asking me questions about my best customer service experience, I got very nervous, my mouth got dry, I just didn't know what to say. I tried to spin the interview, but they were having none of it, myself and another whom many thought were shoe in's didn't get the job. Yet they hired a clerk with zero train service experience, which upset a lot of folks, in the end he made it through the program. But whatever happened to just going down the list in senority order like the freight roads used to do, nope not Amtrak, they have to be politically correct about it all. What got me though was out of the four person panel, three of the guys were senior engineers, how they bought into this BS I don't know and they should have been embarresed about themselves for taking part in such a BS scheme being run by HR. When I interviewed the second time to be an engineer on the commutes, same old BS interview style, only this time I was feeding them a line of BS that they wanted to hear, I can play the game too. My interview to become a trainman was far more intense than the engine service interviews. Any job that deals with people is going to put emphasis on customer service.

Author: fjc I agree for OBS and conductors, ticket agents, but engineers? Seriously first and foremost is the rules compliancy and safe operation of the train, those coupled together will afford a good safe ride, that's about as far as my customer service went as an engineer.
