#6 - Left Naperville 2 hrs, 53 mins late. Left Emeryville 6 mins late.                                                                                            
#8 - 10 mins early.                                                                                                                                  
#22 - 46 mins late. Left San Antonio 8 mins late.                                                                                                
#29 - 15 mins late.                                                                                          
#49 - 22 mins early. Left New York 1 hr, 3 mins late.                                             
#51 - 31 mins early.           
#58 - 1 min early.     

All trains departed their originating stations within 5 mins of "On Time" (or were reported On Time, or early, at some point in their route) except #6, #22 and #49.

re: #49: I never bold anything but this seemed so outrageous.  It was a Sunday and freight traffic would have been lighter. Still, It must really burned up the track to get in early after leaving so late. Must have been quite a ride.

Reduced freigth train interference makes a difference, doesn't it?

Big time!

It helps not having to switch the Boston section into the train at Albany.  It's a cross-platform for the passengers.  Not having the Boston section also makes the station stops shorter between Albany and South Bend, since the train isn't nearly as long as when it operates with the Boston section.

According to Amtrak Status page, the train was 1'03" late out of New York, down to 49" late at Albany, 41" at Syracuse, 43" at Buffalo, 26" at Erie, 8" at Cleveland (hand-off from CSX to NS.  Wonder why the train was in the station for 17 minutes.) and on time at Toledo and Waterloo, 3" late at Elkhart and South Bend, and 22" ahead into Chicago.  But all the recovery was made between New York and Toledo.
