That DRGW unit looks really cool. Date: 03/15/16 18:54 Re: Riding the Zephyr to Colorado Author: keelhauled Very good to see Union Station busy. When I was there last winter it was distinctly eerie to see all the empty tracks and platforms.
Date: 03/15/16 19:07 Re: Riding the Zephyr to Colorado Author: davew833 I think Amtrak spent more on that magnificent sign for the SLC station than they did the station itself. The "temporary" SLC AmShack is now in its 15th year if I'm not mistaken...
Date: 03/15/16 19:55 Re: Riding the Zephyr to Colorado Author: ShastaDaylight Very nice photos! Your images bring back many happy memories of my business trips for Amtrak between Salt Lake City and Denver "back in the day" (starting in 1983) and on the Rio Grande Zephyr before that... I wonder if that D&RGW unit in the backyard out west of Denver (Arvada?) could be Joe McMillan's or Steve Paterson's home? A number of crews used to wave to them when they would roll by on the CZ.
Thanks for sharing, and glad you had a good trip! Best wishes, ShastaDaylight Date: 03/15/16 20:01 Re: Riding the Zephyr to Colorado Author: mundo Even open door on the new baggage cars. Amtrak said the old car doors would not stay shut ! Now what do they say.

It has been there for decades, was originally painted maroon with yellow lettering. Glad to see it is now black. Date: 03/17/16 08:05 Re: Riding the Zephyr to Colorado Author: DavidP mundo Wrote:

Crew member taking a smoke break perhaps? Or just enjoying the fresh air? Dave Date: 03/17/16 10:17 Re: Riding the Zephyr to Colorado Author: timecruncher Nice stuff as usual, Chris. Visible from the north side of the CZ about 1/4 mile east of the station.
