Pacific Parlour 39973 Santa Lucia Highlands
Author: GenePoon

Those who have been looking for Pacific Parlour Car 39973, Santa Lucia Highlands,
to head out West on the Southwest Chief after coming out of Beech Grove Shops and
going to Chicago a few days ago:

You can stop looking.

39973 went back to Beech Grove Shops yesterday, for rework.

STATE OF GOOD WORKMANSHIP

So you're actually saying that the Chicago Maintenance Base did their job and rejected the car because it didn't meet the standard?
You do realize Gene that you have actually said something good about Amtrak...

If Chicago rejected it, it should have never left Beech Grove to begin with. How is this something good about Amtrak?

Chicago caught it and sent it back. Chicago did their job. Beech Grove not so much.

This was an easy call.  Whatever Beech Grove did, the silly car is now 8" shorter than a Superliner is supposed to be.  Anybody would flag that kind of mistake.

The Pacific Parlour Cars are ex-ATSF, and were built a couple of decades prior to the first Superliner.

Okay, okay, if you have to explain why something's funny, it isn't funny.

Still:  yes, I know the Hi-Levels are shorter than the Superliners.

And just what would be the mistake, they didn't saw 8 inches out of the middle of it.
