She said that we'll be seeing a lot of Amtrak engine no. 145 on the Pennsylvanians. It is on train no. 43 again today.

I didn't look when they switched power at PHL on 43 today.  But I'm 5 rows behind whatever it is right now, bound for Pittsburgh to meet up with 'my' WAS-CHI roomette on 29!

The Pennsylvanian pool seems to run two to three weeks, based on previous assignments.

Probably will be there for several years, or until a sleepy trucker smashes it to bits, based upon the shift of more Chicago engines to the northeast.

The question becomes what will Chicago do, retrofit freight engines with head-end power units?

Makes sense since the AMTK 145 is an ACSES-equipped engine.

We've just come around Horseshoe Curve and the conductor alerted all passengers where we were...and that 145 was in the front.  Herzog is quite busy replacing the innermost track on the curve.  Various equipment spread out around the 'last half' of the curve.  NS has taken down a lot of trees on the inside of the curve as well.  The view is much better than when I last came through here 4-5 years ago.

According to an article in Railpace they are equipping P42DC's 87 to 100. They do tend to use the same engines for weeks at a time.

Mr MP109- FYI: In progress as we speak ACS64#651 is towing P42 94 from New York to Philadelphia. P94 has the new cab signal, Acses and software upgrades installed at Albany NY, came down from Albany earlier today and will be used on #43 tomorrow. P99 already at Philadelphia for the last 3 weeks waiting on the software upgrade, the electrical technician will be installing the newly received software update/revision tomorrow morning and after static testing should be ready to try out on #43 Wednesday morning. P100 was the first completed and is beng held in the Boston-New Haven area.

Can an ACS motor function as a cab car, MU'd to a P42, west of the wires, such as to Pittsburgh ?

P42DC no. 94 was on train no. 43 today, without an electric engine ahead.
