Pretty thorough story on his accomplishment and creation of the Pioneer Zephyr.

An honor long overdue.  While Pullman was the "king" of the heavyweight era, no one will ever dissuade
me that Budd Built passenger equipment is the best "lightweight" and "postwar" cars built.  When I first started
riding Superliners, the only thought through my head was "if only this was a Budd".

They have a long, long way to becoming relevant.  Vauclain is not in there.  Dilworth is not in there.  Among many more.

I recall being very disappointed that Budd did not get the Superliner contract.

Now, 36 years later, I am very impressed at how well Pullman Standard did with these cars.  The insulation from noise and the ride quality is far better than modern day equivalents built in the last 20 years.
