So how come all of the "SOGR" Johnnie-on-the-spot know-it-all types managed to miss reporting this 8+ hour late train?

With (allegedly) UP 4116 leading too!

Some of us appreciate the postings of the "know it all's."  If you don't, don't read them.  It's a good thing to call out Amtrak and continue to point out it's many issues when it comes to maintenance etc. (not that anything will ever change).

I read the majority of postings on this site, and find many to be highly entertaining.

However, what I'm seeing right now is a lack of dedication.

6(21) has the UP 4116 leading.

Oakland didn't actually fix the known problems of the
rolling-junk AMTK 112 and 815, they just finessed them into running again and kind
of waved the train ("Good Luck!") on its way.

So you KNOW what followed.  P42/40 goes down, stop, reset, do something else to get
it running better, then proceed...and multiply that by the several times it happened.

Give thanks for the UP unit!

In addition: there were 45-60 min. of heat-related delays from Green River, UT to
Denver. Another 15 mins to throw off a stowaway at Grand Jct. 36 minutes between Grand
Junction and Glenwood Springs account somebody thought it was funny to pull multiple
emergency brake valves; they threw him off into the custody of police. Then there were
meets that didn't come off as planned by UP dispatchers because the train wasn't where
it was supposed to be.

That's just what Amtrak has reported.

Meanwhile, "Late trains get later."  This one just cleared Galesburg IL, ten minutes ago.

FINAL POSTMORTEM: Arrived Chicago 1139pm, 8 hr 49 min late.  Big expenses for Amtrak to
overnight-hotel the many connecting passengers in Chicago.
