Heat restriction in SC?
Author: Chessie1963

Good afternoon,

I am am on the Palmetto headed to Charleston from DC and it appears we have been restricted to 60 mph since Selma or so.  Right now it is 87 degrees at our location, but probably close enough to 90 in the area for CSX.

The crew has said nothing about it.  Anyone here know?

By way of an update, we were further restricted to 40 mph for 15 miles apparently due to storms that moved through.  Track inspectors were in front of us.  After that 15 mile stretch we got back up to track speed.  As of this wrting it does not appear that we have a speed restriction.

different areas have different temps for heat restrictions depending on the average ambient temp for that region ... what's the temp for heat restrictions to be implemented south of Richmond and into the Carolinas

In Texas, we just laugh and say 'That's cute!'

I was in Texas on the Texas Eagle and they slowed down, and an annoucement was made that our speed was restricted because of the heat.

On much of the CSX A-line through the Carolinas, where there are two main tracks, one is 79 mph but the other is usually 60 mph for passenger trains.

Different areas of the A line are more prone to either Heat order events as mentioned above.  Just depends on the temp change from night and day as well as the temp of the rail when it was first laid.
