...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 600 PM EDT FOR
SUMMERS AND GREENBRIER COUNTIES...

AT 1235 PM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING
HEAVY RAIN ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE WARNED AREA. UP TO ONE INCH OF
RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN IN NORTHWESTERN GREENBRIER COUNTY...MOST
NOTABLY BETWEEN RICHWOOD...RAINELLE...AND BINGHAM. UP TO THREE
QUARTERS OF AN INCH HAS FALLEN IN NORTHWESTERN SUMMERS COUNTY JUST
TO THE SOUTHWEST OF SANDSTONE.

ALTHOUGH RAIN HAD ENDED IN SOME AREAS...AN ADDITIONAL DEVELOPING
LINE OF STORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN WAS DEVELOPING ALONG A COOL
FRONT NEAR CHARLESTON WEST VIRGINIA. THIS AREA OF RAIN WILL MOVE
SOUTHEAST BACK INTO GREENBRIER AND SUMMERS COUNTY BY MID AFTERNOON.
RUNOFF FROM THIS SECOND ROUND OF RAIN WILL LIKELY RESULT IN FLASH
FLOODING.

EXCESSIVE RAINFALL OVER THE WARNED AREA WILL CAUSE MUD SLIDES NEAR
STEEP TERRAIN. THE MUD SLIDE CAN CONSIST OF ROCK...MUD...VEGETATION
AND OTHER LOOSE MATERIALS.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
ALLEGHANY...
LEWISBURG...
HINTON...
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS...
AND RONCEVERTE.

THIS INCLUDES THE WEST VIRGINIA STATE FAIRGROUNDS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND NOW. ACT QUICKLY TO PROTECT YOUR LIFE.

DO NOT ENTER OR CROSS FLOWING WATER OR WATER OF UNKNOWN DEPTH.

I do not see any advisories on the Amtrak website that the Cardinal east of IND is suspended.

Has not operated several days now, regardless if Amtrak posted any item on it.

Point is Amtrak is as usual sound asleep in their communication.

Precious few photos or video of the damage, particularly of any RR related damage.  No doubt due to accessibility of many areas being very difficult.

In any case, does anyone have any links to any railroad related flood damage images? 

Why not run it to Cincinnati?

There is no servicing or layup facilities in Cincy, nor Charlottesville for that matter.  If there is anything in KY, WV, they probably can't get to it.
Still no excuse why they can't protect with a bustitute DC - CVS, connect with a similarly scheduled Regional.

Or Huntington?   This issue comes up every time the line is severed.   Instead of serving the customer who may have a ticket from Chicago to Huntington, they run to Indy and say sorry, we will stay here.   Cincy, and surely Huntington has the ability to turn a locomotive - and there are ways to service the cars along the line.  In fact, Ashland, KY is an enroute servicing facility for the train.   What a heck of a way to run a railroad. 

There are many reasons why it could not work, and a few reasons why it could work.  Why can't they make arrangements for it to work given the options available to them?   Easy?  Maybe not.  Doable?  Surely it is if anyone cared enough.   

I think you nailed it.  They just don't care.

Amtrak  does not care for these 3 days week trains and very slow route like the  that takes long time from NYP to Chicago. Cardinal is very slow train, with all this flooding and CSX downgrading this line before all this flooding happen with the line might as well  Cut the Cardinal for good. with cars for another Amtrak trains. CSX was downgrade the line 30 or 35 in next months or 1 or year or 2 with traffic down alot. might as well cut this train now.

Let's hope this isn't the "Katrina" for the Cardinal like the other Katrina was for the Sunset Limited.  Another 3 days a week train.

There is currently a survey available if you go to the amtrak.com service advisories page, where you can tell them what you think of this website feature.

First, CSX has not downgraded the mainline.
Second, 50 and 51 are resuming service tomorrow.

Boy you can be blind since your view is 3 days a week trains are wrothless and if I remember 50 and 51 have good ridership, besdies I've beyond fed up on train eleminations myself!

 Now, Danny I spent  $2,930 plus on big trip last June 2015 on the Capitol LImited,City of NOL ,and Sunset Limited. I love go Sunset Limited again sometime. I am the biggest Amtrak Fan on here. plus spend to get Las Vegas, NV on Southwest airlines. I greatest supporter of Amtrak on here Danny.

Yes, for me too that was my first expectation from Amtrak. "Any excuse as long as it means we don't have to run trains."

Boy you sound so convincing, especially when you say what you said a while ago and that doesn't hold water on you claiming you're the biggest fan of Amtrak!
