[FL] Several Stuart, AAF articles
Author: Lackawanna484

The current issue of TC Palm has several pieces of interest on Stuart, All Aboard Florida, and the lagoon

First up is a report that All Aboard Florida has already spent about $787 million on improvements to the right of way, station construction, etc.

AAF has already spent (fixed link)

Second is an excellent aerial photograph, looking south over the current FEC bridge and into Stuart.  In this picture, the railroad enters from the bottom left, having completed a nearly 270 degree turn from RIO, and crossed several driveways to condo towers. The highway bridge to the left is elevated, which is not obvious in the picture. One of several large boat basins west of the railroad and low level highway bridge is visible.  Million dollar boats are very common in the area..

The photo in the TC Palm article is taken before the new US Route 1 bridge was build. the photo shows only the old bridge and the railroad bridge.

Fixed that link, thnk you.

==================

In the Northpoint article / picture, there are three bridges. The new, 20 years old, Roosevelt bridge is on the left. The railroad bridge is in the center, and the northside bridge is to the right. All three converge on the south shore, with the Pelican Cafe, Sailor's Return etc in the immediate area.

OK, now that it looks like this thing is actually going to happen, can somebody fill us in on how they're dealing with grade crossings?

Roughly how many will there be, and what will be the track speed over them?  Any special gates being installed?  I thought there were some FRA rules that prohibited highway grade crossings over a certain speed limit.

Anybody know how FEC ranks among US carriers for grade crossing incidents under current conditions?
