Passenger Trains > What are these fins for on top of a UP dome car?

Saw this today on one of the domes on the UP Cheyenne Frontier Days train on dispaly in Denver.  Not all the domes have them, but this one does.  Just curious.  Thanks in advance!

Air-flow disruptors.  Like the bug screen on the front of a car's hood.  Keeps the front window clean(er).

Correct, also deflects water and ice that runs from rooftop to rooftop and gets dirty, helps to keep the end dome windows clear. === === = === JLH

I thought for sure they were gills to provide oxygen to the passengers. Patterned after those found in sharks.

Also defelct rocks that might fall from a tunnel ceiling.

I also had heard them called rock defletors. The UP Lounge 9004 is the only Dome that never left the UP which might explain why they are on this car and not others

Also good at keeping foam and slobber from covering the
front windows.
