I'll believe it when I see it. It was supposed to come back a couple of years ago too...

Wonder if UP knows this is happening on their railroad?

Seems legitimate; the Denver Post is also reporting this.  We'll see on Thursday when Winter Park announces the details.

In the above article, there is a photo of a BNSF train at Winter Park labeled "Winter Park Ski Train".  Oops.

With coal traffic having taken a nose-dive on the Moffat route It wouldn't surprise me if UP is more amenable to a revenue-contributing passenger train.

Do you really think UP will come out ahead on this deal?  (I'm not asking sarcastically... I don't know the answer.)  Somehow I'd be surprised if this translates into actual profit for the host railroad.

Regardless, thanks to UP for allowing this to happen!

The UP might be needing some political and public good will in the future?

Yes, if the line capacity is there, and there aren't other, higher revenue ways to fill it.  As long as they're getting paid something more than the incremental cost of another train using the track, they come out ahead.

Interesting if a Pueblo offshoot of the Chief and the this thing could be made into a year-round service hubbing at Denver, maybe extended to Glenwood Springs.

Moffat Tunnel was a joint public.privately funded venture, so Denver and Colorado ought to better enable its citizenry to use it.

I suppose they will round up a bunch of Superliner coaches and coach-baggage cars idled from short winter consists.
I hope it eventually leads to a dedicated fleet such as ex-Santa Fe hi-levels, ex-Metra Gallery coaches, Amtrak-certified IHP coaches, or whatever else there is.

Wasn't  the muni portion of the project just the water tunnel?
