Isn't that the Silver Streak somewhere between Los Angeles and Chicago? 

I have some good memories (though it was a VIA train by time I took this photo (1979).

We rode it just the month from Vancouver to Toronto in Prestige Class---- a truly wonderful trip!!

The Canadien Govenrment back in 1990 needs to get shot since they actually made VIA so screwed compared to what they inherited back in the late 70s and how great that was, be nice to see VIA be like that again!

Granted that your trip was wonderful, it was not like the original Canadian.  I never rode it as far east as Toronto, but my trips between Calgary and Vancouver were outstanding when it was the real CP!  And, your trip did not include some of the finest scenery between Kamloops and Calgary.

Fortunately, we rode the Rocky Mountaineer in 1998 and saw that scenery.

If you click on the link, in the first photos you see what appears to be a Gyralight mounted on the roof of the lead engines, and it's pointed upward.  What was that for??
