Passenger Trains > Cincinnati StreetcarDate: 08/27/16 20:54 Cincinnati Streetcar Author: cutboy2 Well, your photos are already historic.
As Cincinnati Bell has become a major sponsor of the route new colors and logos soon to appear!! Before the first day of actual operation in 2 weeks!! BIG turnout expected for the opening. Many happy talk speeches from those little involved, or even opposed. Balanced by those who actually worked to bring this to completion. Expect to see nobody from either Congressional disticts offices one or two. Or office of the Governor. Date: 08/28/16 13:41 Re: Cincinnati Streetcar Author: MEKoch Kasich is owned by the auto industry and highway construction companies. Don't expect any vision from him. 1000 dead Ohio residents in car crashes is the price we pay for that kind of leadership......
Date: 08/29/16 19:11 Re: Cincinnati Streetcar Author: cutboy2 He cut funding for streetcar phase 2. And we all know the 3-C story!!
Heading for another 1000 a year death toll on Ohio highways. Date: 08/29/16 19:33 Re: Cincinnati Streetcar Author: RuleG MEKoch Wrote:

As a Congressman, Kasich unsuccessfully battled with Representative Bud Shuster to reduce highway spending. Congressional Quarterly Article Perhaps you can provide a link to an information source showing that Governor Kasich has been the recipient of large financial contributions from the automobile and road construction industries. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety 2015 Traffic Crash Facts Alcohol was involved in 31 percent of all fatal crashes and 513 fatalities were the result of people not wearing their seatbelt. Read some more of the crash facts and you will find that Kasich was not really involved in any of the 1110 fatal crashes or any of the non-fatal crashes. US Census estimate is 11613423 people in Ohio in 2015 so it's a small percent. The streetcar, both in the people who like it and the people who will actually use it beyond the novelty item stage is an even smaller percent of the population... I recall a claim several years ago, around the time he rejected passenger rail money for the 3C (Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati) that the highway lobby urged Kasich to reject it. Auto industry influence? Haven't heard that one before. It's interesting Kasich is so anti-spending that he's managed to irritate the highway lobby, too. Date: 08/30/16 06:35 Re: Cincinnati Streetcar Author: P I think the sentiment of the poster is that Kasich killed the budding of passenger rail in the state that would increase mobilty and give choices to state residents. Since there is no other viable alternative for most people other than to drive/ride on the highway, the poster understandably infers that he must be for the highway interests. Either that, or he really doesn't feel that Ohio's residents deserve travel alternatives to the highway. So either he is benefitting the highway interests intentionally or unintentioanlly. Either way, it doesn't metter which.

I stopped in Cincinnati August 23rd and got a few pictures myself of the pre Cincinnati Bell colored cars. EDIT: I found the "historic" thread and added a couple of detail photos. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,4085843 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/25/16 20:00 by justalurker66. |
