NEC train seating and turning questions
Author: JGFuller

1. Are Regional trains wyed at Sunnyside? I believe they are at Washington DC.
2. Are Regionals wyed at Boston?
3. Same questions for Acela.
4. Why no push-pull on NEC?

These questions may have been asked and answered, but my search was unsuccessful. Thanks in advance!

1. Anything and everything that goes to Sunnyside is looped in the process of traveling to and back from SSY.
4. The Keystones and Springfield shuttles (and Vermonter - past tense) are push pull.. Nobody ever produced sufficient cab cars for all else.

Trains in Boston are turned on the loop track near Southhampton St. and the Southeast  Expressway.

But Acelas shouldn't require turning at any terminal, no? IIRC, at South Station the Acelas arrive and dwell at the platform until they're ready to depart for NYP/DC.
Also, I don't think the OP was asking about MBTA/MTA/NJT/SEPTA/MARC commuter train ops on the NEC but I believe all the locomotive powered trains (as opposed to MU electrics) operate as push-pull.

One of the Keystones (the pennsylvanian 42/43) is looped at SSY.  This keeps the cars etc with the seats arranged correctly for the trip to pittsburgh

The Pennsylvanian is not considered to be in Keystone Service, which is why it's called the Pennsylvanian.  As to Boston and JPB's observation, I wonder if the Acela sets' seats are reversible.  If not, the train has to go to Southampton and get looped.

I sure hope the seats are reversible. Otherwise, it's fairly ridiculous to have a motor on both ends.

You're too logical. :)

Acela seats are reversable.  They are not turned at Washington

Doesn't inbound Pennsylvanian becomes outbound Palmetto, and vice versa, with baggage car hitched to the rear for Florida, and 3 extra Corridor coaches on the front for DC ?
