Passenger Trains > NJ Transit leader misses legislative review of operationsDate: 10/21/16 18:13 NJ Transit leader misses legislative review of operations Author: Lackawanna484 The Bergen Record has an article about the failure of Steve Santoro, NJT's new leader, to attend a scheduled review with key legislators. Santoro was meeting with federal regulators, according to his staff. NJ Transportation Department head Rich Hammer attended, but was hustled out a side door, away from waiting reporters.
Couple of interesting facts in the article. Mean time between failure is 80,000 miles for NJT. MetroNorth and LIRR use a different formula and go about 2.5 times farther. (NJT says it reports a door problem as a failure, and it may count a problem that persists over and over.) Legislators focused on indications that NJ Transit is experiencing a budget crisis. Those potential warning signs include NJ Transit’s drive to implement a safety system called Positive Train control, which is years behind other railroads in the region, and its practice of running shorter trains than called for in its schedule because so many cars need repair.“The impression we’re getting is that there is insufficient money for maintenance,” said [Senator Robert] Gordon NJ Transit Date: 10/23/16 05:12 Re: NJ Transit leader misses legislative review of operations Author: Ray_Murphy More on the topic:
