Passenger Trains > Metro Operator Abandons Train At End of ShiftDate: 10/26/16 13:04 Metro Operator Abandons Train At End of Shift Author: hazegray Date: 10/26/16 13:38 Re: Metro Operator Abandons Train At End of Shift Author: CPR_4000 Are they subject to HOS? I'd guess not.

If not, they get a week off with pay and go back on the job. Also; what happens on a real railroad when an engineer runs a stop signal? Out of service; second time, fired. On Metro? can't be too bad, it happens regularly.

The union leaders have supported Wiedefeld in his efforts to make the system safer for the employees and for passengers. Hopefully this guy will find the rules have changed. Date: 10/27/16 15:23 Re: Metro Operator Abandons Train At End of Shift Author: Clarence This sounds like a case of "working to rule", usually done by severely disgruntled employees.
Metro management and staff has been getting federally and locally hammered for months about rules infractions, safety issues, reliability, customer service, you name it. There's a new boss shaking things up, feds everywhere, ugh. As a result I have to think morale is pretty low at the line staff level. If this guy got sent out on a one hour errand when he has 45 minutes left on the clock who's fault is that? Where's the payoff and motivation for going the extra mile under the present work climate? If he runs the train up to the destination and exceeds his time he's probably going to be kicked for a rules violation. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. There is probably a dozen or more possible scenerios that could be fact in this case. Low moral? There should be as a general rule. For Metro to be how bad it has gotten, "most" of the people probably should be replaced so "most" of the people should have low moral as there free lunch is coming to an end. However for those employees in the minority that do their job and want to provide service their moral should be stick with it. |
