Passenger Trains > "Pigeon Dung Closes Caltrain Underpass"

The Embarcadero Road underpass beneath the Caltrain tracks in Palo Alto, Calif will be closed for 8 nights from 10 PM to 6 AM over the next 10 days to remove accumulated bird feces from hundreds of birds living in the I-beams underneath the tracks, according to city officials.  Traffic will be detoured through the University Ave underpass and the Churchill Avenue grade crossing.

Maybe time to stretch some horizontal fencing flat across those I-beams... === === = === JLH

Piegon poop holds moisture which makes it pretty bloody corrosive to the steel bridge beams.

The way the City of PA does things I had thought the pidgeons were being kept to provide a 'Spotted Owl' defense againest CaHSR. I guess all the brand new Teslas that have to sit in traffic under the bridge finally found a City Official to listen. That'll teach them to answer the phone.

The mold and other junk that thrives on pigeon feces can cause respiratory problems. Some of which can be fatal.
That is why it is necessary to close the road!!!!

It's true that the feces is potentially harmful, but I suspect the closing is necessary to get the work equipment under the bridge. If they had to set up containment like an asbestos site, it probably would be closed around-the-clock.

I think you've overlooked the fact that this is California . . .
