Will it end up like the Rotem cars and not be strong enough to keep the train on the rails when a crossing incident occurs?

I'll be the first to disagree, but then I vote for a return to PA's and E-units. KC - it's all "you know what" now... SR Date: 12/17/16 06:03 Re: Charger and Genesis front-end comparison Author: joemvcnj I prefer the Siemens look. What I don't like is the huge "X" grill on the side. How are they going to keep snow out of there ?
Date: 12/17/16 08:10 Re: Charger and Genesis front-end comparison Author: KM-ML4000 The only thing in there is the radiator (cooling plant as they call it), so there is no concern of snow or water getting into that section of the locomotive. Now, if someone leaves the engine room door or rear equipment room door open, that is a whole other story!

Date: 12/17/16 11:38 Re: Charger and Genesis front-end comparison Author: tmurray Strange, but true; they're both siemens designs. The "Genssis Series" lines were based on ICE-1 lines; lines here referto design lineage.
How well will that Charger inake fare when ingesting a good amount of powdered snow? I prefer the new EMD/Cat design. Too bad it doesn't run for $h!t. joemvcnj Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I prefer the Siemens look. What I don't like is > the huge "X" grill on the side. Date: 12/17/16 17:56 Re: Charger and Genesis front-end comparison Author: darkcloud Chargers look a lot better than those worn out cheap sardine cans.

Date: 12/18/16 18:31 Re: Charger and Genesis front-end comparison Author: RutledgeRadio I've always liked the Genesis units, but I believe the Chargers will eventually be the engine that phases them out. There's really no comparison to design, they're both different. I like them both. But I will miss Genesis when they're gone.
I will say, though, that this Charger design looks way better than the bullet-nose Brightline versions. The engines are just too tall to make a bullet nose look that good. Plus there may be more protection for the crew without it, in the event of a crossing accident. At least it looks that way to me. |
