Passenger Trains > Follow-up to Shootout on MetraDate: 01/10/17 06:20 Follow-up to Shootout on Metra Author: kevink Thsi morning's Chicago Tribune has a follow-up story on the shootout between a murder suspect and police on a Metra train last weekend:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-police-shooting-on-commuter-train-metra-met-20170109-story.html Plan was to detain the suspect after he left the train at the Lake-Cook station in Deerfield, IL. When he did not exit the train, the police boarded and attempted to arrest him leading to the shootout. Date: 01/10/17 07:19 Re: Follow-up to Shootout on Metra Author: GenePoon A satisfactory end, both to the suspect and to the incident Had he escaped, he would have been among the public again...a dangerous felon who already had taken a life in anger, no asset to society.
As was pointed out in the original thread: > Chicago area police kill very few people. > Chicago area residents kill each other with scary frequency. > 15 or so per year for the police, about 750 for the locals in 2016 (EDITED: Parts of) Chicago are a jungle, out of control. And we complain about Amtrak there! :-) Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 01/10/17 11:30 by GenePoon. And gun violence has risen considerably since then. Are the two related?
Back on topic, I don't know why they held the train at the Lake-Cook station so long. Since the shootout was contained in the Metra coach, the train could have been moved ANYWHERE for the investigation to be completed. Maybe not, if the Deerfield, IL police had jurisdiction over the crime scene. Date: 01/10/17 16:42 Re: Follow-up to Shootout on Metra Author: goneon66 DevalDragon Wrote:
