Man arrested for assault after he missed Amtrak

This loser probably assumed, "Amtrak is always late" and hung out at a bar, for too long.
But Train 5(4) was ON TIME at Hastings. Then when he heard from Amtrak, "NO REFUND," he
got pissed.

Greyhound must not serve Hastings anymore.

Why are there no passengers like this on Rovos Rail, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and Rocky Mountaineer?

Could the fares being charged have something to do with it?

It's Amtrak's fault for being on time.

You nailed it. The low fares attract bus passengers.

Is he still considered a passenger even though he never boarded a train?

I think if you miss it, you forfeit your ticket and refund.

He's a customer. All passengers are customers, or attempted passengers in this case.

And that's the Achilles' heel of Amtrak.  High fares bring in quality, well-behaved people.  But there aren't enough of them who want to travel by train.

Low fares fill up the trains, but then you have the type of people you see appearing in every episode of the TV show "COPS".

High fares to not necessarily bring in better passengers.  Money does not equate with class. There are icidents on  planes where passengers behave badly, there are people driving on the highways behaving badly.  I have been  on trains numerous times in coach and  sleeping car and  passengers were well behaved.  People travel by train and greyhound  for different  reasons not  necesaarily to misbehave.  Please do not paint all passengers with the same brush.

Having spent the money doesn't necessarily mean good behavior:

On a trip I took on the Sunset Limited in a Deluxe Bedroom, passengers in another Deluxe Bedroom got
into a family argument.  They were newlyweds on the way back from their honeymoon in Hawaii to
Del Rio, TX.  It got so bad that she broke a wine bottle and swung it at his face, fortunately a glancing blow
that drew blood, but did no further major injury.  The train was stopped, police and emergency medical
personnel responded.  He refused treatment and prosecution and the train continued on with the passengers
still aboard.  There was too much blood in the room to allow its further occupancy after Del Rio.

I don't know if they are still married...or if she otherwise managed to murder him!

Plenty of problems in first class too.

You get people who decide they don't care to sit next to women, and claim their rights are being violated. Or the usual aggressive drunks.

It's true that you will find morons in any walk of life, from Beverly Hills to the worst ghetto. That being said, would I put my wife and kids on a Greyhound bus? Doubtful. Coach on a long distance Amtrak train used to be a safe bet, but anymore, that is getting to be more and more of a crap shoot as well. We usually take at least one long distance train trip every year. I can't recall one of them for many years now that hasn't had an issue come up somewhere along the way where the local law enforcement hasn't had to meet the train to haul off some fools from one of the coaches. Maybe that is just strange coincidence, or a growing trend. To each his own, but that is the way I see it.

Chalk that up to low airfares.  Travel by air used to be a lot more classy and had a more respectable clientele  -- back when fares were a lot higher commensurate to the incomes of most people.

They don't call Spirit Airlines the "Greyhound of the skies" for nothing.

Before the "liberal narrative" chimed in, furnished with a strong dose of political correctness, I posed the following question:

Why are there no passengers like this on Rovos Rail, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and Rocky Mountaineer?

Anyone care to take a stab at it?

I'd like to see the data for passenger behavior on Rovos
Rail, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and Rocky
Mountaineer.
Do you have a link to the studies?

so, why is it that police officers are the busiest in areas with the lowest incomes?

Nowhere in the article does it state whether he was booked in coach accommodations or sleeper.

Interesting that while some of you assumed he was a coach passenger (with all the baggage [pun intended]) that entails for the anti-coach/anti-Greyhound crowd, none of you discussed the fact he was drunk.  Getting drunk before or while traveling causes some people to behave badly regardless of class or mode of travel.

The football game in Green Bay this past weekend saw 23 arrested, and 40 kicked out.  Mostly due to drunken and disorderly conduct.  Apparently they keep a running total, this was about average for the season. About the same in NJ for the Giants and Jets.

In a few cities, like Tampa where your season tickets are voided if the holder is arrested or booted out, the rate is fewer than 1 per game on average. If you loaned them or sold them, your tickets and your right to buy next year, go psssst.

Hugs don't work. Cancel season tickets and throw the loser in the cooler for a while
