NY MTA workers complain about pay discrepancy
Author: Lackawanna484

The NY Daily News has an article today about the significant differences in pay among various branches of the NY (state) Metropolitan Transportation Authority.  The employees in the subway and bus system are unhappy that their average and total pay levels are significantly lower than the rail side. Subway and bus employees make about $20,000 less than rail employees.

Average Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North pay levels are very close.  My understanding is there's a master contract which covers both. That contract and various overtime etc provisions may have minor differences.  The bus and subway people are under a different contract.  Police are under another contract, with overtime and tight staffing playing a major role in total comp.  (Police in the NYC subways are New York City Police Department officers.  NYPD absorbed the old Transit Police, Housing Police, Social Services Police etc years ago.)

Bus, subway, rail
