Great Amtrak Service 449
Author: milkcow

Barbara in my sleeping car, Rachel  in our lounge coming from Boston, and John the cook and his diner crew from New York on 449 and 49 January 14, all provided  the most excellant customer service I have had at any hotel, restaurant, cruise ship, or (especially) rental car counter in many years of at least one week every month on Amtrak and other modes.
Barbara learned all her passengers' personal preferences, then teamed up with Rachel in the lounge to serve us a fine lunch, accompanied by great new friends all set up by the fun atmosphere Rachel made.
John's diner crew fed us and entertained us quickly and efficiently with hot individually prepared and very tasty dinners.
And the Lake Shore Limited was nearly on time.

Barbara and Rachel are probably based in Chicago. OBS base in Boston is of insufficient size to handle 449/448.
Maybe they are glad they are not headed to Portland, Oakland or San Antonio on a 12 hour late Superliner for 3 days.

Pass on the compliments to Amtrak, if you haven't already.  It's always nice to hear good news.

Didn't think there was a diner on #49. All excellent service should be passed on to management...not just reports of bad service. As discussed many times, consistency or lack there of is one of Amtrak's biggest problems. A great and friendly crew can make up or other negative issues such as equipment problems and late trains.

It's an Amdinette that the cook does his magic from a few warming trays.  The whole crew was doing their best and being positive, in spite of the Mica meatless budget.

I am passing on the compliments to Amtrak now that I found Barbara's business card with her last name, which the Amtrak compliment form requires.

Set the other half up for a trip on 14 & 11 out of Klamath Falls OR to Tacoma WA and return. Very nice agents to deal with getting things done. Train was five min early out of Kfalls and looks like on time at Tacoma up graded to business car well worth the little extra for comfort and quite. Only three others in there she said and meals were great so far.

If you don't have the Amtrak person's last name, you can use the train name / number, and put the date of origin etc in your compliment.

So, "Davide AutoTrain" got a nice compliment on his work on sleeper 5242 of the AutoTrain leaving Sanford on the 20th, etc.  Amtrak figured it out in their acknowledgement to me.

Making sure that good people get mentioned is important all around.

Correct, no BOS folks deal with the Lake Shore, other than cleaning and turning. Even the train crew is out of Albany-Rensselaer.

Barbara said she spent first part of her life in Chicago, next part working for Harvard, now apparently has some seniority with Amtrak.
So wherever the actual crew base is, they all seemed to have a positive outlook.
