Passenger Trains > Three Trains On A Two-Track RailroadDate: 02/23/17 00:55 Three Trains On A Two-Track Railroad Author: walstib It's not often that you can catch three trains on a two-track railroad, but such was the case at Santa Barbara last night following a deadly pedestrian strike.
Amtrak 11, the southbound Coast Starlight, struck a pedestrian at the Montecito Street crossing, just north of the depot. After that incident was cleared, number 11, right, pulled south past State Street and held on Track 2. Meantime, northbound Surfliner 785, left, pulled into the depot on Track 1 to do its station work while Surfliner 796, center, held short of the depot. After 785 departed and 796 entrained passengers, 796 and 11 coupled together for the journey to Los Angeles. Number 11, which was already running about 30 minutes late, ended up departing Santa Barbara about 5-and-1/2 hours late.
