Sacramento Amtrak Station: Grand Reopening/Open House Today
Author: reindeerflame

The $30 million plus renovation of the 1926 ex-SP Station in Sacramento is nearing completion.  The new owner, the City of Sacramento, proudly showed off the results of 27 months of recent painstaking construction and rehabilitation work today, with guided tours of all floors at the Grand Reopening and Open House ceremony.  The project includes elevators, complete upgrades of utilities, air conditioning, and space for future tenants, which may include an open air dining/bar establishment with views of the surrounding city from a top floor space.  The main waiting room, now air conditioned, now again has multiple doorways on the north side with windows facing the tracks and bus loading areas.  The ticket office has been relocated to the west end of the waiting room.  Our tour was given by John Davidson, who is the project manager for this project for the lead contractor.

One new tenant, a joint venture of McClatchy (publisher of the Sacramento Bee and other newspapers) and Google, was already on the property preparing its second floor space for occupancy.  They will open a 10,000-square-foot digital video facility inside what is now, at least officially, called the Sacramento Valley Station.

Thanks!  Looking forward to seeing that someday.  McClatchy owns the KC Star as well.
