270 Views of this message so far.  The subject line suggests to the reader this would be an update on the V-2 Diner order....

Shucks, what a letdown!

I wonder what is going on with these cars. Are they doing
anything in New York? I have read stories of the pay, hours
and working conditions, all good.BUT,what are they working on?
Siemens has their THIRD set of Brightline sets about to
be shipped.

As in the insurance commerical,"no,you choose the wrong insurance
company" should have Amtrak saying,"no,you choose the wrong builder"

I'm pretty sure that was a joke...how can you have two Tuesdays in a week?

I personally heard an Amtrak official back in January say March would be the beginning of the new dining car deliveries.  Here's what I posted:

After current testing of the first new diner, have heard regular deliveries to begin in March and the order to be completed by
     years end.

     We shall see.

It's still March, but haven't heard a recent word about deliveries.  April 1 might be an appropriate goal...............

Ordering from CAF is like dealing with backorders from the Walther's catalog.

They're waiting for the Walthers boxes currently stuck in customs.

Might have been faster ordering from the model builder and waiting for them to learn how to build 1:1 in stainless steel.

Not to rehash something that was probably discussed before, but why didn't Amtrak send part of the order to Siemens?  They are producing cars for BrightLine on a consistent basis.  And Chargers, Sprinters, etc.

I don't think Amtrak really cares when or even if these cars ever get delivered.

If Amtrak takes a huge hit on operating subsidies, these cars won't be needed anyhow and Amtrak might not have the money to pay for them.

Wasn't Amtrak paying for the Viewliner 2 order out of its own pocket?

I thought it was supposed to be an average of 1 car per month starting Janaury 2017. Well, that's come and gone.

Amtrak's got two Viewliner diners out there (the prototype that was re-done and the new Viewliner II that was released back in November). Yet Amtrak is bound to get the Heritage Diners out of service before the Viewliner II's can take over - Lake Shore Limited perfect example. Hard to believe out of 19 Heritage Diners that existed we are down to 6 Heritage Diners required for service + 2 Viewliner Diners. I am sure there is at least one spare Heritage Diner. But the fact they couldn't find THREE to operate on the Lake Shore? Hard to believe. But that's a done deal. So no use crying over spilled milk.

Because Amtrak has to go with the low bidder, not the most competent one.
