Passenger Trains > Zephyr 5(16) on one unitDate: 03/16/17 16:37 Zephyr 5(16) on one unit Author: GenePoon Calfornia Zephyr 5(16) departed Chicago on time, at which one of its engines, the AMTK 145, died. Mechanical could not revive it and it was removed, leaving the AMTK 822 handling the train by itself. If it holds up, things should be OK to Denver but one unit won't do beyond that.
Lost about 1 3/4 hours... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/16/17 23:17 by GenePoon. Date: 03/16/17 17:00 Re: Zephyr 5(16) on one unit Author: czephyr17 I would assume they will remove one unit from #6 tonight in Denver to be added to #5 tomorrow morning.

We're pulling into Denver now, and the conductor just tipped off the LSA that they'll be losing power for about 15 minutes. Sounds like we'll become the one hit wonder for our destinations east. Date: 03/16/17 22:12 Re: Zephyr 5(16) on one unit Author: ColdRainAndSnow We've been cooling our jets about 10 miles outside of city limits waiting on a freighter with air problems. We're going to check their train as it crawls by to save them the walk-the-train bit. I think we've added another 50 minutes to our tardy slip tonight.

One healthy P42 with 8-9 cars shouldn't have a problem maintaining track speed on a fairly level route. Dave |
